We all know that sports and pop culture go together like mac and cheese … peanut butter and jelly … vodka and Red Bull. But what about sports and politics? Anyone else think that Chris Berman interviewing McCain and Obama last night during halftime of the Monday Night Football game was weird? Was it just a lame attempt to get better ratings?
Here’s an idea to help ratings — put the damn game on earlier. Look, West Coast people get off work early all the time so they can beat traffic or go surfing or head out for a hike. Take it from me, I lived there! But this late start to Monday Night Football really blows for us East Coasters. No one goes out to get a few beers after work to watch MNF. Nope, everyone goes home, watches at home and then falls asleep before it’s over. If we Easterners start drinking after work, get drunk waiting for our damn game to come on, then stay up until midnight drinking more — we are screwed for the rest of the week. NFL, just please, pretty please start the game at 7:30pm Eastern. East Coasters work later anyway. If you start the game then, East Coast people can head on out after work to catch the game and not be shot for the rest of the week — and the West Coasters can get off work a little early (just tell your boss that you’re going surfing). And all the people in between are A-OK. If Chris Berman asked me what I would change about sports if I became president, that’s what I would say. “As President of this great land, I would make Monday Night Football begin 7:30pm Eastern. And let’s move up the Super Bowl, while we’re at it. And Chris, as President, I hereby request that you cut that strange mullet of yours.”
Back to real politics: Did you know that the outcome of the Washington Redskins game the weekend prior to the election has been a pretty good indicator of who the next president might be? Check out this CNN story for details …
